CV Converter Setup Guide
To ensure your template works correctly with CV Converter, please follow these guidelines carefully.
How CV Converter Works
Reads your Google Docs CV template and creates a copy in a specified folder to use for future conversions along with your saved instructions
Preserves structure, formatting and styles
Recreates header/footer images
Generates a properly formatted CV automatically
1. Setting Up Branded CV Template
1.1. Preparing Your CV Template File
- A document created directly in Google Docs
- A .docx file uploaded and converted to Google Docs
- .docx files that were not converted
- PDF files
- Other document formats
In Google Drive, your file should display the blue Google Docs icon (not the Word icon).
How to convert a Word (.docx) file:
- Upload the .docx file to Google Drive
- Open your file
- Select File → Save as Google Docs
- The new file will be created and opened automatically
CV Converter only reproduces images placed in the Header or Footer. Images inserted in the main document body will NOT appear in the generated CV.
- Images, logo, text or other decorative elements in the Header and Footer
- Background image placed inside Header and Footer
- Images placed inside the content/body
- Floating images between text sections
- Inline images inside paragraphs
- Lines placed as an image not a content part
How to Add an Image to Header or Footer:
- Open your Google Doc
- Click Insert → Page elements → Header (or Footer)
- Click inside the header/footer area
- Click Insert → Image
- Adjust the size and alignment
- Close the header/footer section
Use Structured Formatting:
- Use Heading styles (Heading 1, Heading 2) for section titles
- Use standard paragraph formatting
- Avoid adding multiple empty lines for spacing
- Keep formatting clean and consistent
This ensures the formatting is properly preserved during conversion.
- File type is Google Docs
- All images are in Header or Footer
- No images in the main content area
- Clean and structured formatting
1.2. Setting Up CV Template in CV Converter
Select CV Template file:
- Choose a file from your Drive (Google Doc file only)
- Rename the template if needed
- Press button "Add template" to save it
Set up instructions:
To make the conversion more precise and accurate, provide instructions for the tool on how to treat each block in the resume. The instructions can be generated with AI (the tool analyzes your file and suggests instructions) or entered manually. You can edit the instructions at any time to customize the conversion process.
- Generate instructions with AI (press pencil button) or
- Fill the instruction manually
- Press Save and Activate
You may edit your template instructions or set up a new template file anytime if needed.
2. Converting CVs
2.1. Choose a file to convert
- Select a file from your laptop or drag and drop it
- PDF only
- Readable format
- Up to 32 MB
2.2. Select a folder on your Drive to save the result
The converted file is automatically saved to your Google Drive in Google Docs format. The system creates a new folder on your Drive called "CV Converter Templates," which is the default folder for saved results. You can choose any other folder if you prefer. The last selected folder will be used for future conversions.
2.3. Press "Convert CV"
After the CV is converted, you'll see both the original file and the converted result. You can edit the converted file directly in the tool.
